A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression.
Metallic Gaskets:
“Metallic Gaskets” are gaskets that are fabricated from one or a combination of metals to the desired shape and size. Common metallic gaskets are Spiral Wound Gaskets, Double Jacketed Metal Gaskets, Solid Metal Gaskets, Corrugated Metal Gaskets, Ring Type Joint Gasket used for heat exchangers, compressors, condensers, pumps, valves and turbines. These metallic gaskets are suitable for high pressure & temperature applications and require high bolt load to seal.
Types: Spiral Wound, Double Jacketed, Solid Metal gaskets, Corrugated Metal Jacketed Gaskets, Ring type joint Gaskets
Non-Metallic Gaskets:
“Non-Metallic Gaskets” or “Soft Gaskets” are gaskets that are easily compressed under a low bolt load. They are composite sheet materials that are suitable for a wide range of general as well as corrosive chemical applications. They are easily available either in sheet form or as gaskets that are cut accurately to any reasonable shape and size. Non-metallic gaskets are usually manufactured from materials like arimid fiber, glass fiber, elastomers, Teflon (PTFE), compressed asbestos fibre (CAF), flexible graphite etc.
Types are Non-Asbestos, Asbestos, Flexible Graphite, PTFE, Viton, Silicone Rubber, Neoprene and Flange Gaskets.
